DEGREE/TRAINING
01
Teaching Credentials
Bachelor of Secondary Education

These artifacts are my bachelor's degree credentials and my oath-taking certificate as a licensed Mathematics teacher in the Philippines given by the Professional Regulation Commission when I passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers in 1998. My teaching experience in the Philippines has taught me how to deal with conflicts professionally especially for students who needed more motivation and encouragement to learn. Teaching also strengthened my empathy towards students especially those who struggle in learning.

02
Mental Health
Canadian Center for
Occupational Health and
Safety (CCOHS)

This particular self-directed training increased my awareness and understanding of mental health. I gained knowledge in determining mental health concerns at work, strategies on how to promote a safe workplace, skills, and confidence to support employees or co-workers who are experiencing mental illness. In addition, I acquired information about the symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of early intervention in addressing mental health concerns. It is vital to promote the mental health of employees through early intervention and by creating a psychologically healthy place.

03
Dynamics of Social
Interaction

I participated in this workshop due to the following reasons: 1) to gain a broader understanding and knowledge of the relevance of social interaction with social work, 2) to support my classmates who organize the workshop, 3) to increase network and meet people, and 4) as a part of self-care. The workshop was fun and interactive. It describes how non-verbal communication plays a very important role when interacting with people. The workshop also explains worldview: the differences and similarities of different cultures. The workshop was held in the evening (7:00 pm-9:00 pm), I had a big laugh and enjoyed every minute of it.

04
Attachment-Strategies for
Fostering Connections
I took the webinar to widen my knowledge regarding family systems as I want to venture into supporting families as well. I have learned about attachment theory and how a person's primary experience within a family context contributes to the person's behaviour pertaining to building relationships in the future. This webinar allowed me to identify diverse types of families and how to support families according to their needs. Identifying the role of the helper when supporting a family is based on the focus of needs and strengths of the family seeking support.
05
OCASI Positive Space-
Serving LGBTQIA+
Immigrants and Refugees
I took several OCASI Positive Space Initiative self-directed workshops to broaden my knowledge about supporting immigrants and their settlement in Canada. This specific workshop "Serving LGBTQ+ Newcomers" explains how to create a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ immigrants and refugees that are inclusive and free from discrimination. I gained an understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and how to support this marginalized group. I took part in this workshop to be culturally competent about oppressed individuals and communities.
